Natural Beef FAQS

What can I expect to pay for your natural beef?
Ex:  1000 pound steer (live wt) @ $1.50 per pound = $1,500. (paid to Seven Lakes)
600 pounds Hanging wt (averages 60% of Live wt.) @ .55 processing fee = $330. (paid to processor)
Total cost for whole animal $1830.
Packaged beef (averages 55% of hanging wt.) = 330 pounds = $5.55 per pound
Your actual cost will vary depending on the individual carcass yield and your processing choices. Your actual cost per pound of take home product averages between $5.25 and $6.00 per pound.

What size are the steers? They average 1100 pounds.

Do I have to purchase a whole beef? You can purchase a whole, 1/2 (a side) or a split side (1/4). If you purchase a 1/4 side, you will be limited in how it is cut and packaged. We recommend finding a family member or friend to split a half with you  so you can have it cut &  packaged your way.

What are the benefits of dry-aging? We dry age for 21 days in order to maximize tenderness and taste. Dry-aged beef has less water than other beef. Dry-aging provides a higher quality finished product. Beef purchased in grocery stores is not aged due to time and costs. You would have to buy from a specialty butcher shop or order online from a specialty meat company to get this.

Can I have the processor custom cut and pack my beef? Yes! You will be able to direct the processor according to your requirements. Some of the things to consider: thickness of steaks, size of hamburger packs, size of roasts, do you want stew beef or cubed steak.......

Can I keep some bones for my dog?
Yes! Just be sure to tell the processor how much you want to keep.

How is the beef packaged?
In a clear, plastic, vacuum sealed package that seals in freshness and protects meat from freezer burn.

Can't I buy beef cheaper at my local grocery?
Yes you can but it will not compare to our beef. Our price reflects the quality you are receiving. We start with top animal genetics and we raise our animals here on our farm. We do not purchase animals with unknown origins from sale barns. We NEVER USE GROWTH HORMONES  OR
ANTIBIOTICS. Our animals graze on lush green pastures and are supplemented  with grain that has NO ANIMAL BY-PRODUCTS. They are raised humanely and stress free. If you compare our quality product to beef that is the same quality as ours, you will find that we are priced below market prices. We are eliminating the middleman and passing the savings on to you. When comparing prices, make sure you compare us to "Natural Beef Dry-Aged". Beef in this country is now required to list the "country of origin" on the label. With our beef you not only know the country, but you can come to the farm and see the dam, sire and birthplace of the animal you purchase!

Can I process the beef myself? Yes. After it is slaughtered, you can have it delivered to Eastanollee Cannery & Freezer Locker, a Stephens County owned facility, where you can cut and package it yourself. The staff will assist you in the heavy cutting and guide you in the process. They will charge per pound of finished packaged product for using their facilities. They have all of the equipment needed to process your beef including  a vacuum package machine. This is an excellent learning experience for your children!

How much freezer space do I need? 1/2 beef needs about 6-8 cubic feet, whole beef needs 16 cubic feet.

How much beef do I need? It is estimated on average that 1/2 beef will feed a family of 4 for 4 - 6 months and a whole beef will feed a family of 4 for 1 year.

Where are the processing plants located? We use and recommend Cash's Meat Processing in Toccoa, GA or Snow Processing in Oakway, SC. Both are top of the line facilities that meet our high standards and are USDA inspected.

What if I am not satisfied with my purchase? We stand behind our product! if you are not completely satisfied, contact us immediately. Keep the beef frozen and we will work with you to correct the problem or pick up the beef and refund your money!

So how do I order?
Contact us and we will advise of availability. There is usually a 22 - 30 day total wait for your beef to be ready for your freezer. We require a $100. deposit when you place your order. Your animal will be weighed on the day it is delivered to the processor. You will need to pay us for the live weight at this time. You can meet us at the weighing if you would like. We deliver it to the processor and will pay the slaughter fee for you. You will need to contact the processor with instructions on how you want your beef cut and packaged. After it has been dry aged, it will be cut, packaged and frozen. The processor will contact you when it is ready to be picked up. You will pay the processor his fee when you pick up your beef. To place an order, call 706-491-5721.
